needles and pins

Written by Sonny Bono, Cher's version of "Needles and Pins" can possibly rival Petula Clark's on the moodiness level.

Cher - Needles and Pins
and in case you've never heard Petula's version.. La nuit n'en finit plus

bruno: really? I don't understand much French, so I always assumed the Petula's lyrics were just straight translations! how does her version go?

Here's a babelfish translation (you know what to expect ;)) that sort of is ok most of the time...

When I do not sleep the night is trailed the night does not finish any more And I wait until something comes But I do not know who I do not know what I want to like, I want to live In spite of the vacuum of all this last time Of all this gaché time And of all this time lost Dire that there is so many beings on the ground Which as me this evening is solitary It is sad to die Which foolish world I would like to sleep and not to think more I light a cigarette I have black thoughts at the head And the night appears so long to me, if long, if long With far sometimes I hear of a noise of step Somebody which comes But very éfface and then it is silence the night will thus not finish the moon is blue, there are gardens Of in love which from go away hand in the hand And me I am there to cry without knowing why turn like a heart in Oui sorrow, with myself to only wish somebody that I do not like this night, not this night Which will thus finish never But I am feeling gloomy too I would like to randomly leave Partir to far and as of the come day the night, oh the night does not finish of it any more Oh oh oh oh, oh! the night does not finish any more

I love Chér [with a 'é', pleez]and her 'Needles...'cover although the Jackie DeShannon's original version being much better.

Bruno: Thanks for the translation! Petula's lyrics are miles apart from the original! But you're right, her's read like a classical poem.
