The Breakaways were the girls who provided back up vocals for Petula Clark's Downtown, among others. Besides their impressive cv of backing artistes like Paul Anka, Burt Bacharach, Brigitte Bardot, Peter and Gordon, Dionne Warwick, etc, The Breakaways also put out records on their own.

I'd first heard that song on one of the 'Here come the girls' compilations; it was the first track, and effectively sold me on the Cd without having even heard the other artists.
The Breakaways don't so much sing their songs, as they belt them out. Fab stuff!
